With its paradisiacal beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rich biodiversity, the island offers a unique experience for those seeking contact with nature and adventure.

The main attraction of Fernando de Noronha is undoubtedly its lush nature. Beaches like Baía do Sancho, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, and Baía dos Porcos, with its natural pools, are perfect for relaxing. Some activities that are very popular:

  • Diving and Snorkeling: The marine life in Fernando de Noronha is incredibly rich, with various species of fish, sea turtles, and corals. Diving and snorkeling are must-do activities for sea lovers.

  • Hiking Trails: The island offers several trails with breathtaking views, such as the Atalaia trail, which provides a panoramic view of the island.

  • Birdwatching: Fernando de Noronha's birdlife is diverse, with many endemic species.

Accommodation in Fernando de Noronha ranges from charming guesthouses to luxury resorts. It's important to book in advance, especially during the high season. The local cuisine is a highlight. Enjoy typical regional dishes, such as fresh fish served with pirão (a traditional Brazilian side dish) and stuffed tapioca.

As an island far from the mainland with a small, tight-knit, and supportive community, Fernando de Noronha is an extremely safe destination.

Travel Tips

  • Best time to visit: The best time to visit Fernando de Noronha is during the dry season, between May and December.

  • Documentation: A visit authorization (DAV) is required to enter the island.

  • Flights: Fernando de Noronha airport (FEN) is serviced by daily flights from Recife and a few flights a week from Natal. Both Recife and Natal are worthy destinations on any northeast Brazil itinerary. Flight prices fluctuate a lot, so try to book as far in advance as possible. If you are flying from Europe, TAP Air Portugal offers direct flights from Lisbon to Recife.

  • Ecotourism: Respect the environment and follow the national park's rules.

  • Transportation: Getting around the island is mainly done by public transportation (a bus runs from one end of the island to the other), rented buggies (watch out for manual gears), motorcycles/scooters and hitchhiking. It’s easy to move around, as the island is not that big, but expect dirt roads and hills.

Fernando de Noronha offers an unforgettable experience. If you're looking for a place to relax, practice water sports, and connect with nature, the island is the perfect destination for you.
